Scranton Police Arrest Rape Suspect by Tracking Victim's Cellphone

Police say they interrupted a rape and arrested the suspect after tracing the victim's cellphone.

The Times-Tribune of Scranton reports that 18-year-old Eric Dougherty is charged with rape and other offenses.

The accuser called Lackawanna County 911 during the assault, and dispatchers traced her location to a backyard in Scranton.

Scranton police say officers found Dougherty raping the woman in the yard. They say they ordered him to get off the woman and he replied, "What? We're just having sex."

Police listed Dougherty as homeless. He's locked up on $100,000 bail. Online court records don't list an attorney for him.
