Tips Lead Police to Barefoot Escapee in Bucks County

Police find Daniel Selby Jr. after search impacts Central Bucks students for 2nd day

A three-day manhunt for an escaped prisoner ended Tuesday with him back in handcuffs and without shoes.

Police captured Daniel Selby Jr. in Warrington, county radio police said. No one was injured during the apprehension.

Tuesday morning, Warrington Township police responded to the 2500 block of County Line Road after a tipster reported that escapee Selby was at his house around and looking for a ride home. Selby darted into the wooded area toward the Bradford Dam Reservoir, police said.

"He was actually found sleeping in an old pickup truck on the property when confronted Mr. Selby took off running into the woods," Warrington Police Chief Daniel Friel said.

Police K-9 units surrounded the area of Bradford Dam and Lower Nike Park in hopes of capturing Selby.

Three hours later an officer spotted Selby hiding in some woods miles away.

"A police officer then turns onto County Line Road from Kansas (Road)... and I roll my window down and I'm screaming to him 'he just crossed the road, he's in the neighborhood there." resident Kevin Boles told NBC10's Cydney Long.

Police finally recaptured Selby in the Bluestone Creek neighborhood, Friel said.

Day 3 of the search for Selby caused more trouble for area schools. The day after the Central Bucks School District closed all of its schools after the prisoner escaped in the area, the district placed seven schools on lockdown after the escapee was spotted near a recreational area.

“Due to police activity in the area, the Central Bucks School District currently has seven schools in lock down. They are Central Bucks High School South, Tamanend and Unami middle Schools, and Butler, Mill Creek, Titus, and Barclay elementary schools,” the district posted to its website.

“There is no immediate danger or threat to the schools, but we are following our lock down procedures as a precaution," the post continued. "Students will not be allowed to leave the building until the lock down is over. Parents should not go to the schools impacted since they will not be allowed into the building during a lock down.”

Selby is wanted on charges of aggravated assault of law enforcement, assault by prisoner and escape. He allegedly escaped Sunday night during a transport in the area of Bristol Road and Lower State Road in Doylestown Township.

Selby, who had no history of violent behavior, allegedly escaped after he claimed he was feeling ill during the transport, Doylestown Township police said. He managed to get free of his foot shackles and ran off while handcuffed and wearing an orange shirt, according to officials.

Selby -- back in handcuffs Tuesday -- didn't answer question as police loaded him into a patrol car.

Shelby's father was charged with helping his son on the lam. Daniel Selby Sr. told investigators he gave his son $70 then dropped off his son in North Philadelphia Monday afternoon, police said. It was unclear how Selby got back to Bucks County.

NBC10's Matt Delucia details the timeline, and latest information regarding escapee Daniel Selby who caused a search in the Doylestown area of Bucks County Sunday into Monday. Selby is believed to have left the area.

A shelter-in-place was issued for Doylestown Township, Warrington and parts of Chalfont but it was later lifted Monday morning.

The Central Bucks School District closed schools Monday due to the escape. Central Bucks is the third largest school district in the state with more than 18,000 students, the district says.

Selby has outstanding warrants in Bucks, Chester and Philadelphia counties, investigators said.
