A pregnant woman was struck and killed by a school bus Tuesday morning in Philadelphia and investigators say a trainee was behind the wheel.
Officials say the unidentified trainee was driving a 2002 Yellow Bluebird School bus from the Durham School around 10:45 a.m. southbound on the 7300 block of Frankford Avenue at Aldine Street in the Mayfair section of the city.
No kids were on the bus.
Suddenly, police say Kristen Fink, 27, stepped out in front of the bus as she tried to cross Frankford Avenue. The bus struck Fink trapping her under the right rear tire, according to police.
"A pedestrian walked in front of the bus, a young female," said Philadelphia Police Capt. John Wilczynski. "Unfortunately she was pinned under the bus and she was killed as a result of the crash."
Fink was pronounced dead at the scene at 11 a.m. Friends and family say she was pregnant and engaged to be married. Witnesses of the crash told police that Fink was wearing headphones at the time and was possibly distracted.
"She was walking across the street and she had her headphones in," said Jackie Spath, who witnessed the crash.
Officials say Fink's distraught fiance dropped in the middle of the street when police told him the news. On her Facebook page, Fink wrote that she was going to school to be a state parole officer. She also talked about how excited she was to have a baby on the way.
The trainee, who was being supervised during the drive, wasn't hurt nor were four more trainees on board at the time.

No charges were filed.
"Not at this time," said Wilczynski. "It looks like it was just very unfortunate."
