Three school bus crashes this morning left at least 10 people, including some children, hospitalized.
The most serious of the accidents happened just before 9 a.m. along Christina Parkway just east of Elkton Road in Newark, Del.
According to Newark Police An Advanced Student Transport bus carrying 16 students from Newark Charter School was making a U-turn from the right lane when it turned into the path of a 2013 Volkswagon Passat.
The Passat slammed into the left front of the bus resulting in six kids, ages 5 to 9 years old, suffering minor injuries that required hospitalization. The 51-year-old woman driving the Passat was also hospitalized with minor neck and arm injuries, according to police.
Police say the bus driver, Joseph Walcott, 59, of Newark, had missed the turn for the charter school and was attempting to make a U-turn from the right lane when the crash occurred. Police cited Walcott for the improper U-turn.
Earlier in the morning two other bus crashes happened in Philadelphia. The first happened a little before 8 a.m. when a Durham School Services yellow bus and a Chevy Impala got into a fender bender at Union and Brown Streets in Philly’s Mantua neighborhood.
The bus driver wouldn’t say where she was transporting the children. No students on board were hurt. The driver of the car and her 2-month-old daughter did go to the hospital for observation.

There was little damage to the bus but more damage to the car.
A short time later, Philly School District bus No. 154 got into an accident with a truck at Washington Lane and Ardleigh Street in the city’s Germantown neighborhood.
There were also kids on board the bus in that case. No injuries were reported to the children but one woman was hurt, according to witnesses at the scene.
Both crashes remain under investigation.
