Ads Added to School Buses in Pa.

Pa. school district approves advertising inside buses

A Pennsylvania school district plans to put advertisements on the inside of its buses as it tries to deal with cuts in state funding.

Parkland School District's board approved the plan Tuesday night to place ads on the inside of 46 high school buses in its first year. The district's remaining 50 buses would get ads the following year.

Parkland would get 75 percent of the ad price, an estimated $150,000 in the first year. The district says the ads would be age-appropriate.

School Director Roberta Marcus says she was reluctant to support the measure but felt it necessary to fund student programs.

Robert Cohen voted against the deal. He says the school is there to educate, not hawk merchandise.
