The Pennsylvania attorney general says a central Pennsylvania woman lost nearly $7,000 in a sweepstakes scam.
State police and prosecutors aren't identifying the woman who was first contacted on April 19 and last had contact with the scammers on Friday.
Authorities say someone called the woman to tell her she had won $2.5 million in a "Mega-Millions Sweepstakes" and that she had to wire $1,000 to Minnesota to claim the prize.
The woman then received more calls and text messages seeking more money. In all, the woman wired $5,000 to people in Minnesota and Jamaica, and sent more than $1,700 worth of electronics.
Authorities say people should not respond to any sweepstakes offers that require them to send money or other valuables in order to claim a prize.
