Crashes claim lives in Montgomery County, Philadelphia & Delaware

UPDATE: Authorities believe the car that crashed was racing at the time. Two passengers died.

A deadly crash closed a busy Montgomery County highway early Saturday.

The driver lost control and overturned while driving eastbound along U.S. Route 422 near the exit to Grosstown Road in West Pottsgrove Township, Pennsylvania just after midnight, said Montgomery County dispatchers.

At least one person died at the scene and another was medevac’d from the scene, said dispatchers.

It took about 10 hours to open the eastbound lanes of 422, said police.

No word yet on what caused the driver to lose control.

The deadly night on Philadelphia-area roads continued at Broad Street and Stenton Avenue in Philadelphia’s Ogontz neighborhood as speeding Ford Explorer slammed into a Hyundai Elantra trying to make a left turn around 1:35 a.m.

The wreck left the driver of the SUV ejected, the 30 year-old died a short time a couple hours later at Einstein Medical Center, said Philadelphia police. His 28-year-old passenger suffered severe trauma to her head, said police.

A 17-year-old girl and 28-year-old woman in the car were treated at Einstein in stable condition, said police.

On Friday evening, a Pennsylvania man died in a crash in Red Lion, Delaware. The driver of a Ford Escape failed to slow or stop when vehicles in front of him were stopped at a red light around 5:30 p.m., said Delaware State Police. The Ford Escape struck a Honda Civic which in turn struck a box truck.

The driver of the Ford Escape was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. State Police identified the Ford Escape's driver as 61-year-old George Woodlaver of Chester, Pennsylvania. State Police said preliminary reports suggest that Woodlaver "may have had the onset of an acute medical condition prior to the crash."

Then, at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Harrison McCray died after being ejected from his 2005 Cadillac CTS as the car barrel rolled after leaving Parker Road in Selbyville, Delaware. [[412770223, C]]
