Teenager Admits to Fleeing Crash That Killed New Jersey Superintendent

A New Jersey high school student who authorities said was talking on her cellphone while driving when she struck and killed her school district's superintendent as he was jogging has admitted to leaving the scene of the crash.

Mercer County prosecutors said Wednesday that the teen -- who wasn't identified since she was a juvenile at the time of the wreck -- pleaded guilty Monday to leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death and careless driving.

Under the plea agreement, the driver will be sentenced in January to three years probation, 200 hours of community service and have her driver's license suspended for two years, said prosecutors.

Authorities said she was late for a class trip when she hit Robbinsville Superintendent Steven Mayer in April, killing him and his dog.

Mayer was the married father of three sons. His wife taught at an elementary school in the district.
