Authorities have charged a New Jersey man with fatally shooting a woman in the chest while they were gathered for a birthday party at his home.
The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office said Sunday that police responded to calls around 11 p.m. on Saturday in Riverside and found that 35-year-old Nikita Cross, of Galloway Township, was shot in the chest.
Officials have charged 42-year-old Darren Winningham, who lives at the residence where the shooting happened, with murder. He was lodged in the Burlington County Jail on $500,000 bail.
Law enforcement officials say several people were gathered at Winningham's house for a birthday party, but further details were not available.
Cross was taken to Lourdes Medical Center in Willingboro where she was pronounced dead.
