Ribbon Cutting on $787 Million Convention Center Expansion

The opening is scheduled for Friday morning and will create about 2,000 jobs.

Officials are preparing the cut the ribbon on the $787 million expansion of the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.

The opening is scheduled for Friday morning on Broad Street, just north of City Hall. The project nearly doubled the size of the building to more than 1 million square feet of usable space,
creating what city hospitality officials say is the largest contiguous exhibition space in the northeastern United States.

The Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority estimates the expansion will create about 2,000 jobs.

The official grand opening is scheduled for June.
