Return Day: Delaware Politicians Gather to Bury the Hatchet After Election

The political campaigns and election are over, and now it's time for Delaware Democrats and Republicans to bury the hatchet.

Politicians of all stripes are gathering in Georgetown on Thursday for the time-honored tradition of Return Day, where they will settle their partisan differences, if only for the moment.

The Return Day celebration features a town crier announcing the results of local election returns, and winning and losing candidates parading together in carriages and cars around the downtown circle. Local party leaders then join to ceremoniously bury a hatchet in a box of sand.

Return Day also marks the start of speculation about who will run for which offices in the next election.
