Court records say a former University of Delaware graduate researcher who is accused of using a recording device to make videos of women in on- and off-campus bathrooms secretly did it for "personal gratification" and did not seek out any one woman.
The News Journal of Wilmington reports that Javier Mendiola-Soto told police during questioning on July 1 that he placed the recording "device in hopes of recording any female."
Mendiola-Soto, a doctoral student from Mexico, was arrested July 1 on a single count of felony invasion of privacy. He was committed to Wilmington's Young Correctional Institution, where he has remained.
He was charged with an additional 20 felony counts of invasion of privacy on Thursday and held without bail. Police have estimated there may be hundreds of victims.
