Elmore's body was found early Sunday in front of a memorial that friends and family put together as a tribute to Anthony Lias, also 17.
The memorial, off the 300 block of North 10th Street, now honors both teens. Family members say the two were always together and dreamed of a career as hip-hop artists.
"They were going to make it on the radio together," Donald's sister, Porsche Elmore told the Reading Eagle.
"It's just a shame that we have young people that have access to weapons being out those hours at night, police Captain Francis Drexler told the paper. Police are investigating both deaths.
Elmore and Lias were students at Reading High School.
