Off-Duty Officer Stabbed While Assisting in Arrest of Knife-Wielding Man in Bucks County

An off-duty police officer was stabbed while assisting officers along a busy suburban Philadelphia roadway Friday morning.

The incident played out along Route 309 near Tollgate Road in Richland Township, Bucks County, authorities said.

An off-duty Lansdale police officer was helping Richland Township police arrest a knife-wielding man when he was stabbed, Lansdale police said.

The unidentified off-duty officer was treated for a non-life-threatening stab wound to his shoulder, police and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office said.

Police took the suspect, identified as 45 year-old Stephen Deatelhauser, to the hospital, as well, for treatment.

Deatelhauser is expected to be charged and make an initial court appearance in Bucks County Friday afternoon, the DA's office said. It is unclear if he has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
