Caught on Cam: Woman Steals Puppy From Pet Store: Police

A woman was arrested after police say she was caught on camera stealing a puppy from a Montgomery County pet store and then hiding the dog in her handbag.

Police say the woman, who has not yet been identified, went inside the Playful Pets store on Ridge Pike in Conshohocken back on February 28 shortly after 5 p.m. As she was petting puppies inside the store, she allegedly grabbed a male Bichon Poodle mix puppy named "Montgomery" and placed him inside her handbag without being noticed. Police say she then briefly talked with employees before leaving the store with the dog, worth $1200.

Plymouth Township Police posted surveillance video of the woman on their Facebook page. After receiving numerous tips, police identified the woman as 20-year-old Keyla Betancuorth-Quijano of Norristown. She was arrested Tuesday morning and released without posting bail.

Police say their Facebook post on the theft brought in more tips than a bank robbery and hope tipsters will take another look at their page to help solve other crimes.
