Public Accountant Accused of Defrauding Religious Center of $4 Million

Federal prosecutors have accused a California certified public accountant of stealing more than $4 million from a religious center in New Jersey.

Fifty-year-old Donald Gridiron is charged with wire fraud.

Prosecutors allege Gridiron shuffled $2.75 million from the Union County-based Worship Center's bank account to accounts that he controlled.

Prosecutors also allege Gridiron transferred more than $1.5 million to an account associated with a foundation in which he was involved.

Authorities say Gridiron used the money to make mortgage and luxury car payments and to gamble with.

He faces an initial court appearance on Monday.
