‘Hungry' Pennsylvania Prison Inmates Shout About Sandwiches Sans Cheese

Inmates at a central Pennsylvania prison who were heard shouting "We're hungry!" through windows were apparently upset because they were served sandwiches without cheese.

WGAL-TV reported that residents heard the inmates yelling through open windows at the Lancaster County Prison on Sunday.

On Monday, LNP reporters contacted the prison — where officials declined comment — though County Commissioner Scott Martin later told the news service that the inmates' concerns were "gravely exaggerated." Martin also serves as chairman of the county's prison board.

Martin said the inmates were apparently upset because their sandwiches only had one slice of meat — which was 3 ounces — instead of two slices, which are 1.5 ounces each, and no cheese.

Martin said the inmates were trying to "stir the pot."

A prisoners' rights group plans to look into the incident.
