Pregnant Woman Drove Drunk to Walmart: Cops

Woman drove her two young children to Walmart but police couldn't charge her with drunk driving in the store because they didn't see her in the car, police say

A pregnant woman was arrested Wednesday after driving drunk to a store with her two young children and becoming belligerent, police say.

Officers responded 2:15 p.m. Wednesday to a Walmart store on Route 13 in Camden, Del., where they found store employees trying to calm the woman down in a restroom as she was acting belligerent and swearing, according to a police report.

Melanie Acree, 36, of Harrington, Del., was "highly intoxicated" and officers later learned she had driven to the store while inebriated. Police say she is about seven months pregnant.

But police say they could not charge Acree with drunken driving because they did not see her in the car.

Acree was charged with reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child and disorderly conduct. She was released on $2,250 unsecured bond, police say.

The children were turned over to their father unharmed, police say.
