Pot Farm Found After Fire Displaces 12

Several marijuana plants were discovered inside a northern New Jersey duplex after a fast-moving fire roared through the structure, displacing 12 residents.

No injuries were reported in the blaze at the home on East 18th Street in Paterson, which was reported around 10 a.m. Saturday. The Record reports the fire was contained to the basement, but smoke damage was reported on both floors and some windows were broken out.

Officials say 11 adults and a child had safely escaped the home when fire crews arrived on the scene. The blaze was extinguished nearly an hour later.

Witnesses say police removed about a dozen 7-foot-tall marijuana plants from the building. Further details on the discovery were not disclosed.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
