Pennsylvania Family's Pot-Bellied Pig at Center of Zoning Battle

A northeastern Pennsylvania family who was cited for having a pot-bellied pig is getting to keep the animal — for now.

The Kingston Township zoning board said Thursday night that it didn't have the jurisdiction to decide if Gemma, the 11-month-old pot-bellied Vietnamese pig, could stay in Heather Brennan's home.

Brennan was cited last week by the zoning officer for having a pig in a residential zone. Her family paid about $500 to appeal but an attorney for the zoning board says it was an animal nuisance order and not under its jurisdiction.

The family says it checked with the town prior to moving into the home and they were told the pig was allowed.

The family's attorney, Lawrence Kansky, says he's appealing and Gemma isn't leaving the house.
