New Jersey Boy, 4, Drowns in Family Pool

Friends and family mourned a young boy with autism who drowned in a family pool in Pennsville, New Jersey Sunday.

Police responded to a home on South Broadway around 5:15 p.m. for a report of a possible drowning. When they arrived they found an unresponsive 4-year-old boy with no pulse, said Police Chief AJ Cummings. The officers immediately performed CPR on the child but felt no pulse. The boy was taken to Salem Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The boy was playing with a sibling while their mom was taking a nap and father was watching a football game, said Cummings. Later in the day, the boy’s father went to get everyone together for dinner but noticed only one of his children was inside their home sleeping, police said. He searched around the house and eventually found his 4-year-old son unresponsive in their above-ground pool, according to officials.

Investigators believe the boy had climbed out a window and fell into the pool, said Cummings.

His death remained under investigation Monday. No charges were filed.
