A young man is in custody following a shooting and standoff at a home in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

Police responded to a home near the intersection of Court and East streets in Doylestown's Belmont Square area around 3:40 p.m. Thursday for reports of shots being fired.

Police told NBC10 a 21-year-old man who was alone inside the home was armed with a rifle and firing randomly. The man, who was upstairs in the house, fired at least five shots. Investigators said some of the shots struck a neighboring home.

On Friday, police identified the man as Christopher Dalrymple.

"So far to our knowledge we have no information that anybody has been hurt but shots have been fired," Bucks County District Attorney Matthew Weintraub told a reporter with WFMZ-TV.

Residents in the area were told to shelter in place while others were warned to avoid the area.

At 6 p.m., Doylestown Borough officials tweeted that a person was placed in custody and no injuries were reported. The shelter in place was lifted and evacuated residents were allowed to return to their homes.

Police said Dalrymple lives in the home though he doesn't own it.

Dalrymple is charged with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and related counts. Online court record don't list an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
