A man is dead after being shot by police in north Philadelphia.
The shooting happened around 8 p.m. after police were called to assist with a suicidal person. When they arrived the man was standing on top the PGW building at 9th street and Montgomery Ave.
The man pulled out a gun when approached by officers and they shot him according to Investigators.
The victim worked as a dispatcher at the gas company for more than 20 years.
Police say the 42 year-old man recently learned he had cancer and that may have been one of the reasons he was so depressed and suicidal.
A friend and co-worker, said the man was married and has two children and a stepdaughter.
"He had been texting me. And I came here for this purpose. But I got here too late.”
