Man Slashes Officer: Police

A Philadelphia Police officer was cut by a man he had pulled over during a traffic stop early this morning, according to police.

The officer made a traffic stop at A and E Huntingdon Streets in the Kensington section of the city when an unidentified man slashed the officer across the head.

The officer was taken to Episcopal Hospital for treatment. He is expected to be OK, detectives told NBC10’s Tim Furlong.

NBC10 cameras were rolling as fellow officers searched the suspect and placed him in the back of a patrol car.

The man was later charged, police said.

No motive was given for the incident.

This is at least the third time in as many days that a Philly police officer was assaulted during a traffic stop. On Sunday an alleged drunk driver rammed a police cruiser, knocking down an officer and later in the day a 20-year-old driver allegedly dragged an officer three blocks. Both officers suffered minor injuries.
