Woman Tries to Run Over Police Officer, 1 Hurt

A person was hurt when a woman allegedly tried to run over a Philadelphia Police officer in the Kensington section of the city tonight.

The driver tried to strike the officer near the Market Frankford El at Kensington Avenue and E Ontario Street just after 6 p.m., according to Philadelphia Police radio.

While running a red light, the fleeing car collided with three other vehicles including a University of Pennsylvania bus, witnesses on the scene told NBC10.

The female office wasn’t hurt but a woman in one of the other cars was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The driver was arrested after a brief foot chase, said witness Michael Sosa.

"She tried to run out of the car, jumped over the bumper and ran through a parking lot and Philadelphia Police... got her," Sosa said.

SkyForce10 hovered overhead as a tow truck took away a dark-colored sedan from under the elevated train line. Nearby, a silver sedan had visible driver-side damage.
