Man Beat Ex-Girlfriend with Trophy, Rake: Police

Aggravated assault charges have been filed against a southern New Jersey man who allegedly beat his ex-girlfriend with a trophy, a rake and a metal gym bar.

Rozel Foster also faces criminal mischief charges stemming from Tuesday morning's attack, which occurred at his Toms River home.

Authorities tell the Asbury Park Press that the 20-year-old ran off after the attack but was soon found in a bedroom closet in his home, hiding under some clothes.

Authorities say the 19-year-old Jackson woman and her 44-year-old mother had gone to Foster's home to get some of the younger woman's belongings. Foster allegedly chased after her and dragged her about 15 feet, then struck her with a trophy and rake with such force that they both broke when the hit her body.

Foster also allegedly hit the woman's mother during the attack. She and her daughter were both taken to a hospital, where they were treated for various undisclosed injuries. Their names were not released,

A passing female jogger saw the attack and yelled at Foster, who then allegedly tried to hit her but missed.

Foster remained jailed Wednesday on $100,000 cash bail. It was not known if he has retained an attorney.
