Police Make Arrest in Connection with New Jersey Nightclub Shooting

Authorities have made an arrest in connection with a brawl at a northern New Jersey nightclub that ended with a man being shot.

Paterson police say 24-year-old city resident Hendrick Acosta is charged with aggravated assault and endangering an injured victim. They say Acosta was involved in the Sept. 21 brawl, but did not say whether he's suspected of any involvement in the shooting.

The brawl started inside the nightclub but soon spilled outside into the street.

Authorities say one of the combatants then fired a handgun “multiple times,” and a 21-year-old Passaic man who happened to be standing outside the club was shot in the wrist and the thigh.

A telephone number for Acosta could not be located Sunday, and it wasn't known if he has retained an attorney.
