Police Chase Ends in Arrest of Northampton Man Who Allegedly Assaulted Mother With Tear Gas

A Pennsylvania man has been arrested after police say he assaulted his mother then led officers on a car chase.

First responders were called to a home in Northampton County around 7 p.m. Saturday.

Court records show the mother reported difficulty breathing and temporary blindness after being hit with tear gas. The woman told officers her 27-year-old son also hit and kicked her, wrapped her in chain and rope and threatened to throw her into the basement.

The woman has been hospitalized for treatment.

Lehighvalleylive.com reports the man fled the scene in a minivan. He was arrested shortly afterward when his car hit a curb and became disabled.

Police charged the man with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and fleeing police.

His preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 8.
