Man Who Damaged Student's Eye Arrested: Cops

Drexel student Sam Stone's eye was badly damaged during Memorial Day Weekend after police say Patrick Hannigan shattered the rear window of the car he was sitting in. Hannigan was arrested for the crime last week.

A man accused of badly damaging a Drexel student's eye during Memorial Day weekend is in police custody.

Patrick Hannigan, 29, of New Milford, Pa. was arrested on October 19 after a lengthy investigation.

Police say Hannigan was involved in the attack of Drexel student Sam Stone, 19, back on May 28.

Stone, 19, was sitting in the back of his friend’s SUV at a stoplight on the corner of 21st Street and Ocean Drive in Avalon, N.J. around 11:50 p.m.

Investigators say a group of men approached the vehicle following an argument. That's when police say Hannigan struck the car's rear window, causing the glass to shatter.

“This tall man walked around the back of the car and came to the window that I was at and just punched it in,” said Sam. “I was like less than 3 inches away from it so the glass just came in and shattered my eye.”

Police say Stone continues to have significant loss of vision and additional medical procedures as a result of the attack.

Hannigan, a self-employed sports trainer, posted a $25,000 bond the day of his arrest, according to police. He is charged with aggravated assault and criminal mischief. Police say there may be additional charges for other people involved in the incident.
