Police Make Arrest in Deadly Shooting of Man Outside His Grandmother's Funeral

A Camden man is facing charges that he was an accomplice in the murder of a 22-year-old man who was shot to death outside his grandmother's funeral late last week.

Police said on Sunday that Victor Rodriguez, 31, played a role in the death of Jonathan Vasquez, who was also from Camden. Vasquez was outside a viewing for his grandmother, 70-year-old Rosa Serrano, at Camden's May Funeral Home, on the 1000 block of South 4th Street, Thursday evening when police say someone shot him to death.

A ShotSpotter activation -- technology that detects gunshots and alerts police -- drew officers to the scene outside the funeral the night of the shooting, authorities said. Police took the victim to Cooper University Hospital, but he died there a short time later.

Camden County officers arrested Rodriguez Saturday about 8 p.m., according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. He is being held at the Camden County Jail on $1 million bail.

Officials have not said who they believe Rodriguez's co-conspirator in the deadly shooting was and said that an investigation into the homicide is ongoing.
