PokerStars Will Give New Jersey a Jolt, But Unclear How Much

PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker should give a much-needed jolt to New Jersey's fledgling Internet gambling market, but observers are unsure just how much growth they might bring.

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement approved Amaya Inc. to offer its PokerStars and Full Tilt brands late Wednesday night.

Kevin Mathers of the PocketFives poker website expects PokerStars to grow the New Jersey market, but cautions it could force at least one existing company out of the online business.

Chris Grove of OnlinePokerReport.com says PokerStars will boost New Jersey's online poker industry, but cautions it is still too small to support many such sites without adding players from other jurisdictions.

Internet gambling began in New Jersey in November 2013. After a slow start, it has been showing gradual improvement.
