Man Shot, Killed After Trying to Rob Deliveryman

Alleged robber shot 4 times, dies

An alleged would-be-robber who was shot four times as he struggled with the deliveryman he was allegedly trying to rob died Tuesday, Philadelphia Police said.

Vincent Yates, 26, faced armed robbery and aggravated assault charges after police say he tried to rob a pizza deliveryman on the 700 block of Price Street in Germantown Monday night, police said.

The deliveryman -- who works for Seafood Sensation in Philadelphia -- came to deliver pizza Monday night at a vacant home on the block, investigators said.

When he arrived, Yates approached him from a nearby alley and demanded $100 from the delivery man at gunpoint, cops said.

A struggle then ensued resulting in Yates being shot in the neck, shoulder, face and buttocks as the pizza spilled to the ground next to them, according to authorities.

Police initially reported that the deliveryman wrestled the gun out of Yates' hands and shot him with it. They later said that it was unclear whether it was in fact the delivery man who shot Yates or if the gun accidentally went off.

Yates was taken to Einstein Hospital where he died Tuesday.

The delivery man did not suffer any serious injuries. No charges were expected for the delivery guy. cops said.
