Donors Gives Pennsylvania Aviary 2-Toed Sloth

Pittsburgh's indoor zoo dedicated to birds has welcomed its newest member — a two-toed sloth.

National Aviary officials say the 3-month-old sloth, a gift from an anonymous donor, arrived by private jet from Florida Monday afternoon.

The Linnaeus's two-toed sloth is the Aviary's second sloth.

Two-toed sloths have a pair of long curved claws on their front feet as well as three on their back feet.

The public will be able to see the 2-pound baby in the Aviary's Avian Care Center beginning on Friday.

A baby shower is planned for him and visitors can make donations. The public will also be able to bid on the chance to name him.

Daily wellness exams are expected for the sloth as well as practice using perches.
