An investigation is underway after a suspicious fire destroyed a playground in Pine Hill, New Jersey.
The fire started at the Charles Bowen Recreational Complex on South Club Road on Saturday at 5:11 a.m., destroying playground equipment and damaging a concession stand, leading to an estimated loss of over $75,000.
“It’s a total loss for the community,” Mia West, a Pine Hill resident, told NBC10. “There’s not much to do in Pine Hill as it is.”
While investigators have not officially ruled the fire an arson, they said it appears to have been set on purpose. Police are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible.
“It can’t be tolerated and won’t be tolerated,” Pine Hill Fire Chief William Dukes said. “Do the right thing. Tell us what happened and we will take it from there.”
