Dead Driver Found in Pickup Truck Overturned in Open Field Off New Jersey Roads

Police say Douglas Smigelski was found dead in his overturned pickup truck

Emergency vehicles drove onto a field in South Jersey after a pickup truck wound up overturned in the open field dozens of feet off the road.

Emergency responders found Douglas Smigelski inside an overturned pickup on the field off Kings Highway and U.S. Route 322 in Woolwich Township Wednesday morning around 6 a.m., Woolwich Township police said.

Smigelski appeared to be the only person in the truck, investigators said.

It was unclear what caused the pickup to wind up crashed in the field. A tarp was placed over the wreckage.

The crash scene is near Kingsway Regional High School. Police made no connection between the 56-year-old Smigelski and the school.

NBC10 has left a message with the superintendent's office to ask if the Shiloh man was in anyway connected to Kingsway.

Police continued Wednesday to search for a cause for the deadly crash.
