At approximately 8:25 a.m., firefighters from the Talleyville Fire Company were dispatched to the 2000 block of Montchanin Road. A woman, 59, was found on top of a stone-covered water tower located on a multiple-hundred acre property. She was trying to repair something when she fell 10-feet off of a ladder.
Firefighters attempted to bring her down and out of the tower but were unable to bring her down the tiny spiral staircase. The Delaware state police were alerted at approximately 9:17 a.m. to help the firefighters.
The woman was checked and assessed by medical crews. Her head, arm, neck and back were injured. Once assessed, additional resources were then requested. The woman was stabilized and packaged in order to be lifted and moved by a Trooper 4, an aviation unit.
The woman was then picked up by a helicopter that at one point flew just 15-20 feet above the stone-covered water tower.
The woman was flown to a field where she was transferred to be driven to Wilmington Hospital.
Approximately 20 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene.
New Castle County Police are investigating the incident.
