Child found in car in Del. parking lot while mother was working

New Castle police arrested a Philadelphia woman after she left her 7-year-old daughter in a car on a hot spring evening while she worked.

Police were called to the parking lot of on state Route 273 around 8 p.m. Wednesday and found the girl unattended inside the car, according to Lt. Adam Brams.

Brams says the girl's mother, 30-year-old Abiba Amadou, of the 5000 block of Hazel Avenue in Philadelphia, was found inside the business and told police she left the girl in the car around 7 p.m. on purpose and a friend was supposed to pick up the girl at 9:30 p.m.

Amadou told police that she couldn’t find anyone to babysit her daughter that night.

The National Weather Service reports that temperatures in the area were in the low 80s and high 70s on Wednesday evening. Brams says the girl was evaluated because of the heat.

Amadou was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and released.

Authorities contacted the Division of Family Services, and Amadou was released pending a court hearing.
