Man Attacks Elderly Woman Who Hired Him to Work in Home: Police

Police are looking for a man who they say assaulted and robbed an elderly woman in her home after she hired him to work.

The 83-year-old woman was inside her home on the 1600 block of West Godfrey Ave when the incident occurred Thursday afternoon on Oct. 6.

Police say she had hired the suspect to do various repair jobs at her residence. After a few weeks of working in her home, the man got into a verbal dispute with the woman over payments and then suddenly punched her in the face, investigators said.

The suspect then attempted to place his hand over the woman’s mouth but she fell to the floor and was unable to get up, according to police. After several minutes, the victim got up and realized the suspect had fled the scene with $250 that was in her purse, police said. She was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for head and face injuries.

The suspect— a bearded man with a stocky build, 40-50 years of age— was last seen wearing a gray pullover hoodie, dark colored pants, and a baseball cap with an unknown logo.
