Philly-Area Nurses Charged in $9 Million Fraud Case

The FBI arrested five nurses on health care fraud charges related to what investigators call a scam at a Philadelphia hospice care provider

The FBI has arrested five nurses on health care fraud charges stemming from what investigators are calling a $9.3 million scam at a Philadelphia hospice care provider.

An indictment unsealed Friday alleges Patricia McGill, professional services director at Home Care Hospice and a registered nurse, authorized and supervised the admission of inappropriate and ineligible patients for hospice services between 2005 and 2008.

Also charged were Natalya Shvets of Southhampton, Giorgi Oqroshidze of Philadelphia, Yevgeniya Goltman of Newtown and Alexsandr Koptyakov of Bensalem.

The five defendants were arrested Friday.

U.S. Attorney Zane David Memeger said McGill authorized nursing staff and supervisors, including her co-defendants, to fabricate documents in support of hospice care for patients who were not eligible, or for a higher, more costly level of care than was actually provided.
