Philly Archdiocese Faces New Abuse Suit

Fourth in a new series of lawsuits over priest sexual abuse is filed

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is facing the fourth in a new series of civil lawsuits over priest sexual abuse.

Monday's suit is filed by an Arizona man who says he was abused at the Our Lady of Calvary parish in northeast Philadelphia from 1988 to 1991.

The former altar boy, identified only as “John Doe,” says the offending priest continued to work around children despite repeated complaints to the archdiocese. The priest, now dead, is also named in another of the recent lawsuits.

Defendants include the archdiocese, church officials and two women who worked in its victim-services or youth-protection offices.

The suit cites a recent grand jury report that accused the archdiocese of using its victim-services office to protect church interests, not the victims.

The archdiocese did not immediately comment.
