August 18, 2012: Officer Moses Walker Jr. was shot and killed on his way home from work. He was walking to a bus stop near 20th and Cecil B. Moore Avenue in North Philadelphia when he was shot three times during a robbery.

July 15, 2012: Officer Marc Brady was struck and killed by a car as he rode his bicycle near Musgrave Street and Meehan Avenue in East Mount Airy. He was off-duty at the time and police say the driver who hit him was dating the officer's ex-girlfriend.

June 8, 2012: Officer Milan Merke was off-duty and participating in the Midnight Run for Peace when his motorcycle was hit by a car at Broad and Master Streets in North Philadelphia. He died at the hospital a week later.

July 8, 2012: Highway Patrol Officer Brian Lorenzo was killed on his way home from work. Police say he was riding his motorcycle on I-95 near Cottman Avenue when he was hit by an accused drunk driver who was going the wrong way.

Sgt. Timothy Simpson was a 20-year veteran of the Philadelphia police force. His cruiser was hit by another vehicle while responding to a robbery. The driver was allegedly on drugs.

Police Sgt. Patrick McDonald: Sept. 23, 2008<br />nSgt. McDonald was shot and killed during a seemingly routine traffic stop in North Philadelphia. The suspect jumped out of his car and shot McDonald as the 8-year veteran pursued him on foot.

Police Officer Jose Ortiz: Sept. 21, 2000<br /> Ortiz was struck by a fellow cop car as he pursued a burglary suspect at 9th and Cambria Streets. Ortiz died three days later. The 29-year-old was a four-year veteran of the force.

Police Officer Leddie J. Brown: December 11, 1997 On Thanksgiving day, Brown's motorcycle was hit by a car. He suffered complications and had his legs amputated. His condition deteriorated and he died on December 11.
