A likely caught-in-the-crossfire shooting Monday night left a pregnant teen riding in a car fighting for her life.
The 18-year-old was in the front passenger side of a 2017 Chevy Impala at the intersection of Emerald and Atlantic streets in the Kensington neighborhood around 9:30 p.m. when at least two gunmen fired about 30 shots, Philadelphia police said.
The teen was struck at least three times in the chest and torso. Officers found the 18-year-old unresponsive and rushed her to Temple University Hospital where she was listed in extremely critical condition.
Police told NBC10 the teen is about two months pregnant. They didn't reveal any condition on the fetus.
Investigators don't believe she was the intended target as the car was driving along Emerald Street at the time and the driver had stopped briefly to talk a man she knows.
"It's very possible that this female was struck by stray gunfire, it's very possible that she was, literally, caught in the crossfire," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

After the shooting, the driver drove backwards from the scene and turned onto Clarence Street where the teen told her she had been shot, investigators said. the driver then asked people nearby to call police.
No one else was hurt in the shooting.
Bullets also struck several nearby homes on Joyce Street, at least two of which had families inside, police said. Two other unoccupied and parked cars were also struck by gunfire.
No arrests have been made and investigators have not yet released information on any suspects. Police interviewed witnesses and looked through surveillance video as they search for clues.
