Philadelphia Police revealed details Thursday about a new scholarship program aimed at children between 5 to 13 years old with parents lost or permanently disabled in the line of duty.
The $500,000 scholarship is being funded by the Connelly Foundation with the stipulation that the Philadelphia Police Foundation raises a $100,000 challenge grant that will raise the Connelly Foundation’s initial $300,000 grant to $400,000 over the next three years.
The money is expected to help educate the children of the fallen officers by giving out four-year scholarships to schools of their choice.
Members of various police groups joined the Connelly Foundation to announce the scholarship challenge.
The Philly Police Foundation is accepting online donations now.
