UPDATE: Police arrested two suspects. NEW DETAILS HERE
A man and a woman impersonated police officers to rob people in South Philadelphia overnight, police said.
Police say a man and a woman inside a silver Nissan sedan pulled up to a 23-year-old woman on 4th and Jackson streets around 4:30 a.m. Sunday. The male suspect flashed his badge and then yelled that he was going to arrest the 23-year-old, officials said. The 23-year-old woman then fled the area.
Around two hours later, the man and woman drove to East Passyunk Avenue where they approached a male victim, police said. The male suspect once again showed a badge and asked for the victim's ID, claiming he matched the description of a criminal, according to investigators. The suspect then took the man's wallet and handed it back to him. As the man and woman left the scene, the victim checked his wallet and discovered $14 in cash were missing, police said.
Police have not released descriptions of the two suspects. They are looking at surveillance video and are asking any witnesses to come forward.
