Democratic Philadelphia Mayoral Candidates Square Off

As the May 19 primary quickly approaches, the six Democrats vying to get the party’s nomination for Philadelphia mayor took to Temple University to debate over education, taxation, economic development and other issues facing the City of Brotherly Love's next mayor.

Democrats Lynne Abraham, Nelson Diaz, Jim Kenney, Doug Oliver, T. Milton Street and Anthony Hardy Williams squared off Tuesday night at "The Next Mayor Debate" hosted by The Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News, and Philly.com, with partners WHYY, Temple University's Center for Public Interest Journalism, Committee of Seventy, WURD Radio, Young Involved Philadelphia, and Technical.ly Philly.

The debate ran from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Temple's Performing Arts Center.

Daily News Editorial Page Editor Sandra Shea and WHYY Senior Reporter Dave Davies co-moderated the debate.

The Democrat that emerges from the primary as the victor will be the favorite against Republican Melissa Murray Bailey in November's general election.
