An elderly woman was killed Monday night after she was hit by a car in front of the Newark Free Library.
On Tuesday morning, Newark Police released their preliminary investigation into the hit-and-run crash that killed Helen Yang, 76, of the 300 block of E Main Street.
The wreck happened a little after 8:30 p.m. as Yang crossed the street in front of 750 Library Avenue, according to investigators.
Yang was hit by what is believed to be a four-door Honda Accord that was moving southbound and failed to stop, cops said.
Several other drivers stopped and tried to help Yang as she was injured in the roadway. One of those drivers was Jonathan Feliciano who police say pulled his car over to keep other vehicles from hitting Yang. He called 911 while another couple performed CPR.
"The woman asked the man if she had a pulse and he said 'yeah, it's faint,'" said Feliciano. "A few seconds later she asked him again and he said she didn't have a pulse anymore."
Yang died at the scene and was identified Tuesday afternoon after her family was notified.

Investigators determined that the striking vehicle could be a black 1998 to 2002 Accord that possibly has front end damage on the right side of the car -- particularly the rear view mirror, police said.
