Pepper Spray May Have Evacuated Elementary School

A public school in northern New Jersey was evacuated after someone released what's believed to be pepper spray inside the building.

The incident happened Wednesday morning at the Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School. At about 9:45 a.m. students in a sixth-grade class noticed an odor and began coughing.

Jersey City school officials say the school was evacuated for about an hour and police, fire and hazmat units responded.

Two dozen children were taken to local hospitals as a precaution. One security guard was treated at the scene.

It was not immediately known who released the spray. The incident is under investigation.
