A man suffered serious injuries after smashing his sedan into the back of a tow truck in South Philadelphia early Monday.

Police didn't immediately release the name of either driver in the crash which happened around 2:15 a.m. at Penrose and Pattison avenues.

The driver of the vehicle which rear-ended the tow truck was taken to Presbyterian Hospital with unstable vital signs after firefighters freed him from the wreckage, said police.
