Pennsylvania Mom Sentenced in Son's Bathtub Drowning

A western Pennsylvania woman must spend one to two years in prison followed by five years' probation in the death of her 13-month-old son, who drowned while he was bathing unattended with two toddler siblings.

Twenty-seven-year-old Tonya Thomas, of White Township, was sentenced by an Indiana County judge on Monday. She was convicted in June of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and three counts of endangering the welfare of children.

Thomas apologized, but District Attorney Patrick Dougherty called her actions "inexcusable."

She left Ryden Thomas and his 2 and 3-year-old siblings unattended in the bathtub and later found him face-down in the water in February 2013.

The boy's father, Wesley Thomas, has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child endangerment and was sentenced to three months to two years in prison.
