Pennsylvania Man Learns Fate in Murders of Father, Grandmother

An eastern Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole in the murders of his father and grandmother almost two years ago.

The Reading Eagle reports that 36-year-old Johnny T. Branford showed no emotion as he was sentenced Wednesday in Berks County Court.

Prosecutors said Branford was kicked out of the victims' Reading home but returned and stabbed 52-year-old Johnny M. Branford and strangled 74-year-old Mary Branford in January 2015.

Prosecutors said he went on a spending spree with his grandmother's credit cards before the bodies were found and he was arrested 10 days later.

The judge said Branford showed no remorse and his actions were the definition of malice. Given an opportunity to speak, Branford proclaimed his innocence and vowed an appeal.
